Rahul Roy Responds to Online Mockery, Reveals Financial Struggles and Legal Burdens After Health Crisis
Rahul Roy responds to online criticism over viral Instagram reels, revealing financial struggles and ongoing legal issues following his 2020 brain stroke. The former Aashiqui star appeals for work and highlights challenges faced after fading from Bollywood fame.
Roy, who rose to overnight fame with Aashiqui directed by Mahesh Bhatt, had become a household name after the film’s massive commercial success. Starring alongside Anu Aggarwal, he quickly established himself in the industry and went on to feature in films such as Junoon and Gumraah. However, his career trajectory declined in subsequent years as film offers diminished, prompting him to step away from the industry for a period due to personal decisions.
In recent days, Roy has been seen in viral Instagram reels collaborating with a relatively unknown content creator, lip-syncing to songs from the 1990s, including tracks from “Aashiqui.” The clips gained significant attention online, drawing mixed reactions. While some users expressed concern about his circumstances, others mocked the videos, labeling them inappropriate.
Responding to the backlash, Roy issued a statement on Instagram, asserting his dignity and transparency. He stated that he continues to work with honesty and modesty while dealing with longstanding legal matters that require financial resources. He clarified that these legal issues predate the brain stroke he suffered in 2020.
The actor experienced a brain stroke while shooting for the film LAC: Live the Battle in Kargil, which led to a prolonged period away from work and contributed to financial strain. Addressing public criticism, Roy remarked that mocking his simplicity or struggles reflects more on the critics than on him. He also appealed to the public for support in securing genuine and respectable work to help him manage his legal obligations.
Roy’s personal life has also drawn attention over the years. Reports have linked him to past relationships with Pooja Bhatt, daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and half-sister of Alia Bhatt, as well as Manisha Koirala. He later married former model Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar in 2000. After 14 years of marriage, the couple separated and eventually divorced.
In addition to his film career, Roy achieved renewed public recognition by winning the inaugural season of Bigg Boss, hosted by Arshad Warsi. His victory played a significant role in establishing the show as a major television phenomenon in India.
Roy’s recent statement highlights the challenges faced by former film stars navigating health issues, financial pressures, and public scrutiny in the digital age. His appeal underscores the need for empathy and support for artists confronting personal and professional hardships beyond the spotlight.
